The Clay County Circuit Court met for the first time on March 4, 1822. At that time Clay County was on the very western border of the United States. The Court provided stability and order to a new but wild frontier. Through Civil War and World Wars the Court has heard many thousands of cases both civil and criminal. The Circuit Clerk has preserved those records. This book looks at the Judges who have led the Court and a few examples of early cases that can be both sad and interesting.
