Discovering Historic Clay County, Missouri

Rating:

Discovering Historic Clay County, Missouri represents the culmination of several years and countless hours of research conducted by volunteers at the Clay County Archives and Historical Library. It brings together information from two major initiatives; the Clay County Gazetteer and the Historic Sites Map project.

Discovering Historic Clay County, Missouri presents a treasure trove of information on more than 1,100 historic sites and points of interest throughout Clay County. Some of these sites date back to the original formation of Clay County in the 1820s. Many have been lost with the passing of time. Handcrafted maps reflecting the current or former location of these sites including businesses, homes, schools, churches, communities, roads, bridges, railroads, mills, springs, streams, rivers, landings, and more are included. Images, sourced from the Archives' photo collection, accompany brief descriptions of the sites. GPS coordinates are provided for many of the points of interest. An overview of the U.S. Public Land Survey System is presented along with information regarding Clay County's Civil and Congressional Townships.
