Divided Loyalties - Civil War Soldiers Buried in Clay County, Missouri was written and published by volunteers of the Clay County Archives and Historical Library in commemoration of the 150^th Anniversary of the Civil War. The book was produced in honor of those who served and sacrificed during the war. It will be of interest to history and genealogy buffs alike.

Divided Loyalties begins by in Clay County and how those organizations evolved throughout the war. Divided Loyalties contains biographical providing an overview of Civil War related events and issues including insight into how the war impacted the citizens of Clay County prior to, during and following the war. The book then examines the military structures that existed and narratives for 812 Civil War soldiers that are buried in Clay County. Confederate, Union, Home Guard and Guerrilla soldiers are documented. Information about each soldier, including their birth, death, place of burial, occupation, family members and military service is provided. More than 600 photos of these soldiers or of their gravestones are included. Divided Loyalties also provides a description of key military units as well as a list of the soldiers that served in each unit. A cross reference of Civil War soldiers buried in each cemetery is provided along with information regarding the location of cemeteries in Clay County. Articles discussing the Battle of Liberty/Blue Mills Landing as well as the Confederate Monument at Fairview Cemetery are also included.
